Next Steps

Dear all, thank you for your support. I promise I won’t be posting too much stuff here but I do feel the need to explain how this campaign is organized and what are the following steps.

Why is Ecocalypse crowdfunded?

I guess you already know Ecocalypse is a hybrid narration, and that’s the main reason why I went into crowdfunding.

I believe I did a good job and I want to reach as large an audience as possible. Yet the hybrid nature of the book doesn’t make it fit into the publishing strategies of big publishers and the small publishers, well, have a small audience.

Potentially, Kickstarter has a very large audience but very tough rules for how to reach it. Namely, a project has to reach its funding goal as soon as possible, ideally, in less than a week, to get featured in the larger Kickstarter community. And this is where the Ecocalypse website and this newsletter come in.

What is crowdfunding?

For those of you who are not familiar with crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter it must be said that it is not a classical online sales platform. Rather, it helps you get the money to finance a project, in this case, a book. Those who contribute with a certain amount of money are said to make a pledge and for this are given a reward (say a published book). For more info read this

What is the aim of the crowdfunding and what do you get?

My project is aimed to cover the printing and promotional expenses for the first edition of 200 copies (but, the more the merrier) and, though some costs might add up in the near future, for now the funding goal is 1800€. The cover price of the book will be 25€ (international shipping included), but by joining this newsletter you get access to discounts up to 40%! Other goodies will be available even with lower pledges (starting from 1€), such as pdf bookmarks or other. Higher pledges come with limited edition gliceé prints of my drawings and/or several copies of the book.

Unfortunately, an important part of the cover price is actually a buffer for the international shipping expenses. With shipping fees that can go up to 15€, there are quite a few places in the world where I will actually lose money for selling a copy and, after roughly 3 years of work on Ecocalypse, it’s not a perspective I cherish.

So, why did I make this site and the newsletter?

Basically, what I’ve built here is an early warning mechanism. What I get is an idea of how many people are ready to support the project so I will know when to start the actual campaign on Kickstarter. What you get is access to all the goodies and discounts described above.

So when will the actual campaign start?

For now, we all have to wait. Or better, you will have to wait a bit, while I will have to push a lot. Reviews and features are upcoming, and, of course, I will keep you updated. For the most part, however, I am contacting people one by one, informing them on the project and seeing if they are interested.

You are now the magnificent 30, and I want to thank every single one of you, the first 30 newsletter subscribers! But again, if you do the math, you can see that, for the project to be viable, I will need at least 100 supporters. I will keep you informed on the progress of the subscriptions but by the current rate I guess that it might even take a month or two. I hope you’ll have the patience for that and I hope that my pushing will start yielding better results. In any case I am deeply grateful for your interest, so far.

Thank you all, love you all,

Bojan
